‍

What it is

‍

The Long Game is a short interactive film about how you came to be here. It starts at the first instant of the universe and moves through stars, the chemistry of life, the first heartbeat and the first marks people left on cave walls. Then it arrives at the moment you are watching it.

‍

You move it forward one tap at a time, so it runs at your pace. It ends on a question, not an answer, and an invitation: press your hand to the screen, leave it on a wall shared by everyone who has watched, and pass the film on. Whoever opens your link joins the chain after you and sees who the story passed through to reach them.

‍

How it is built

‍

Real-time particles. Every picture is drawn live from up to 40,000 particles in WebGL, with a lighter fallback for older devices. The engine trims itself to keep the motion smooth on a phone.

‍

A score made as you watch. The music and sound are generated in the browser and follow your taps. There are no recordings.

‍

A shared wall. Hands, optional first names and the state or region they came from live in a small database on dimension5.us. Names are filtered, and any name can be hidden.

‍

Privacy by design. The film sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. Each visit sends one anonymous summary, which shows us where people lean in and where they drift.

‍

Sources one tap away. Learn more opens what we know, a reading list and the credits over the film, without losing your place.

‍

Why we made it

‍

The film is about scale: 13.8 billion years of history arriving at one person holding a phone. We wanted people to feel that, not just read it, and then hand them the next move. As the film says about chess, the rules only say what cannot happen. Everything else is up to the players.

‍

Bring it to a room

‍

Today it runs in a browser. We can build a version for a space: a planetarium dome, an LED wall, a science museum gallery or a brand activation, scaled to the room, with the audience joining in from their own phones.

‍

Let's talk about a version for your venue.
